Since one of the subjects that fascinates me is dogfighting, another aviation themed piece. Two different versions of the sketch.

A few years back I tried my hand on a classic comic book character named Spawn. With a twist, this time. Imagining the superhero getting old; really old...

Some traditional technique

This one is acrylic on wood panel. As soon as I put those "stamps" on the lower part I regretted I didn't go with my initial idea of objects painted directly, floating around the characters and not as aligned icons. I guess I was trying to do something more graphic. Those also took me way more work than the portraits... Oh well, next time. Yes, I know, there is no next time; how about next life time?!

And these are oil on canvas:

Some of the characters I made for the Deadpool game. As you can see in the left image, in Rogue's case the 3d character followed pretty accurately the concept. Next one is Domino and in her case I think the 3d artist did an outstanding job. Especially taking in account the short development cycle this project had.

Since this blog is dedicated mainly to old professional work or personal stuff, I will post a trailer from a few years back (2010, I think). It is made by Blur Studio with my storyboards. I remember we worked internally over a couple of weeks exploring different ideas and I only had a day and a half to put together the final version, so it was pretty rough. But it worked and the guys from Blur, being amazing as they are, got it down like nobody's business.

Pre-production art from my Animation years

The thing with these is that I have lost the original scans and I am left with these tiny images...

Pencil drawings

This is a drawing of a series dedicated to smokers. I was fascinated by the subject at the time and decided to do a series of six or so. I don't think I got too far with it, probably 3-4 and right now, fortunately I can only find this one. I say fortunately because I would probably fall into the temptation to post them despite their limited craft and appeal.

Drawing. 06 maybe.

I found this old piece looking thru stuff from 20 years ago. Kept it under the rug always, never posted it. But, looking today at it I thought it's kind of fresh and direct in a way the gaming art was back in the days of first generations of photoshop; the line scanned from paper and kept on top of the color, etc. It is definitely not well painted or subtle but the character poses are good and I realize this is something I am missing from the concept art nowadays. All is photographically realistic, well painted, saturated with effects and smothered in "magical atmosphere" but, too many times the characters are very poorly drawn, poorly posed, seldom hidden behind darkness, effects or obviously based on a direct photographic source, which is good but only if you manage to pull that off for every assignment and without getting into copyright infringement. Many times it is unfortunate to discover where exactly the reference ended and the artist tried to continue the figure with obvious diminished skill. Happens a lot with perspective also. See stuff badly placed in a perfectly 3d generated environment - a pity, really!
Well, I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. So, let's not patronize no one here and get down from the evangelizing pulpit. Done writing.
